The client
Maranatha Canadian Reformed Church is a Protestant church in British Columbia, Canada which which belongs to the Canadian and American Reformed Churches.
The need
As a student looking to build my portfolio, I approached my church leadership and asked if they would allow me to build a website for them.
The solution
All of the content came from printed materials or was supplied by someone from the church. I came up with the visual design, which by today’s standards was very basic. In fact, on the day that the site launched, instead of a photo I had a line drawing of the building from a Dutch-style wall tile that had been commissioned after the current building had been constructed in 1975.
Under the hood, the code was also very basic by today’s standards. All of the pages were static SHTML, with a server-side include containing the side navigation. It would be a few more years before I delved into the world of ASP, and later PHP.
